I find using a tablet to adjust faders on the XR12 is a bit hit and miss so I thought I'd get a motorised fader device to do the job, with the tablet mainly to be used for muting. To that end, I got a BCF2000. However, I'm having absolutely no joy with it.
BCF2000 set up to S4 mode. MIDI in and out connected the right way round. BCF2000 set to Mackie/Cubase on power up. I had no luck with controlling the XR12 so I used MIDI-OX to look at the messages from the BCF2000. The faders should be sending out CC messages on channel 1 but they're sending out pitch bend messages on the channel corresponding to the fader. I have reloaded the firmware (1.10) but with the same result. I believe it was previously used for light control which may have a bearing on the messages being sent. Have I overlooked something obvious, and does anyone have any suggestions?

Then it's expected that the faders are sending pitchbend messages, because that's what the Mackie (MCU) protocol is using for the faders.

I think for controlling the XR12 you have to make your own BCF preset from scratch, based on the MIDI implementation chart found in the XR12 manual.
...or find a pre-made preset (sysex) file on the net.
Thanks, the various articles I'd found on Youtube all said to set it into Mackie/Cubase mode. So much for them.
Hm....seems surprising.

Found it. I needed to unset all the MIDI switches in the Audio/MIDI tab. It was in one of the videos I'd watched but I'd managed to miss it.
