Hello there!
I am very glad that I stumbled upon this site / to find out that there are still ppl interested in both XG Midi as well as QS voices.
The first question I had I think I already found an answer to in the FAQ on the main page, regarding which would be the oldest supported OS for these Apps. Apparently it is Win2k/XP. Due to the fact that I have a SW60XG residing in an older computer that operates under Win98, 2k and XP, I was wondering whether the XG Manager would run on that machine.
As for the devices that are compatible with the QS300 mode of the XG Manager I found the DB50, SW60 and MU10 listed. I was wondering, would the QY700 also be compatible, as it is compatible with the QS300 voices? (iirc it is compatible with the QS300 voices, but not the "patterns", etc.)
The reason I am asking is because it would save me some space / work, not having to integrate the old computer hosting the SW60 ISA card into the studio and being able to use the QY700 instead.
Another big point of interest for me would be the list of QS voices that are integrated into XG Manager via your QS300 database. I remember back then, a program called XG-Gold enabled one to access the 3- and 4-layered voices of the QS300-Mode on the SW60, but I was never able to register aforementioned software as the author as well as the program's webpages have long vanished from the internet. Is there a list of voices available that are inside the QS300 database utilizedby / available via the XG Manager?
Thank you in advance for your help, I am looking forward to staying a member of this community.
regards,
KCS
The latest version of XG Manager definitely works in XP.
Yes, the About page of the website (and the manuals for all the individual programs) state that 2000 is the minimum Windows version.
However, I've never had Windows 2000, so I've never been able to confirm that the programs (and of course their installers!) actually run on 2000.
You're the first person to inquire about 2000, so please let me know whether XG Manager runs on it. If not, I'll update the minimum requirement specs.
The latest version of XG Manager definitely does not run on Windows 98, because 98 doesn't support Unicode characters.
The last version of XG Manager compatible with 98 was 1.0.3, released back in 2009. If you desperately want to run XG Manager on 98 I could make version 1.0.3 available to you, but of course later versions have improved the program in various ways, and you say that your machine also has 2000 and XP. (Theoretically I could create an up-to-date non-Unicode, Windows 98-compatible version of XG Manager, but this would be a lot of work, because several other modern features of the source code would have to be reverted to make it compatible with the old non-Unicode compiler.)
No idea. I think the best way is just to try.
I created XG Manager something like 15 years ago, so I can't remember where I got all the data structures from.
For instance, I have no idea how I defined the voice names and elements in the "voice library" window.
In any case I probably got the Wave names in the "voice elements" window from the official "QS300 Sound Lists and MIDI Data" document QS300E2.pdf, which you can still download from https://www.oocities.org/the_qs300_website/.
Hope this helps,
Mark.

You need MS Excel
I had a token interest in this because I have XG-Gold whose splash screen mentions the QY700. However, the QY700 manuals do not mention the system-exclusive bulk dumps (F0 43 00 4B nn nn 1n ..... F7) required to load QS300 voices, nor Bank Select MSB (most significant byte) of 63 required to access them (see QY700E1.PDF page 44).
In 2003-4, I undertook to create a voice list in Microsoft Excel from the QS300 website. It is found in the Files section
of groups.io/g/QS300 as QS VOICE POOL.xlsx
I visited your link but couldn't find the actual file.
Firstly, try joining the group by sending an email to QS300+subscribe@groups.io
@Greg Holwell
Do you have an E-Mail adress?
I prefer to keep my email address private. (If you really want a private conversation, you can email QS300+owner@groups.io )
Once you subscribe, you can go into https://groups.io/g/QS300/files
Clicking on the file name will download it to the browser's default location for downloads.
The suffix ".xlsx" indicates that it is in the current Microsoft Excel workbook format, which may or may not be usable by other spreadsheet programs.
The reason there are so many files bearing my name on the groups.io QS300 group is the pre-announced demise of Yahoo groups.
