FCB1010 unable to receive Midi information from the Manager Application

My FCB1010 is connect to my PC through a behringer UMC404HD audio interface. I can successfully upload my FCB1010 configuration (send from controller to computer) by following the instructions. However, once I've changed the midi settings in the manager to what I desire and am ready to send it back to the FCB1010, the Manager Crashes. I follow the instructions carefully by disconnecting the midi in cable on the FCB1010, entering global configuration succesfully, connecting the to MIDI Input, pressing number 7 (SYSEX RCV) on the FCB1010, then clicking 'ok'. As soon as I click 'ok, the FCB1010 manager becomes 'not responding' and stays that way indefinitely (to the point where I have to end the program through task manager). I can't see if there are any error messages that pop up aside from the whole thing just crashing. Oh I also made sure to have my interface selected in the options -> midi in/out part of the manager, that all should be correctly set up. I'm stuck - Any ideas?

Cheers.

However, once I've changed the midi settings in the manager to what I desire and am ready to send it back to the FCB1010, the Manager Crashes.

As soon as I click 'ok, the FCB1010 manager becomes 'not responding' and stays that way indefinitely (to the point where I have to end the program through task manager).

So FCB1010 Manager seems to be hanging, not crashing. These are two totally different things: crashing means "terminating unexpectedly".

What should happen after you press OK in the "Send data to the FCB1010" dialog box is this:

  1. The "Send data to the FCB1010" dialog box closes (i.e. disappears from the screen).
  2. FCB1010 Manager sends a single MIDI System Exclusive message (containing the new FCB1010 setup) to the selected MIDI Output port. (If all is well, the message ultimately gets received by the FCB1010, as indicated by its CONFIG LED going off for a second.)
  3. FCB1010 Manager opens a dialog box saying "Data sent to the FCB1010" plus some instructions on how to proceed on the FCB1010 itself. After you press the OK button in this dialog box, the "Send" operation completes and FCB1010 Manager returns to "normal" operational mode.

The whole sequence of events after pressing OK in the "Send ..." dialog box until the appearance of the "Data sent ..." dialog box should only take a fraction of a second.
From the point of view of FCB1010 Manager the operation is extremely simple (much simpler than the "MIDI -> Receive" operation), and I can't see how it could cause FCB1010 Manager to hang.
Some random ideas:

  • Perhaps there is something fundamentally wrong with you setup or MIDI interface. Have you selected the correct device in the "MIDI devices" dialog box and in the "FCB1010 options" dialog box? Is there some feedback loop (perhaps involving your MIDI interface and/or your FCB1010) that causes the SysEx message to be sent around infinitely?
  • You can monitor whether FCB1010 Manager actually sends the MIDI message via the "MIDI output meters" window (make sure the correct Device is selected). The bottom "LED" of the "SysEx" column should become green briefly. (Similarly, you can monitor whether any MIDI messages are being sent to FCB1010 Manager via the "MIDI input meters" window.)
  • Can you see any response on your FCB1010, in particular its CONFIG LED?
  • Could the problem be that the "Data sent to the FCB1010" dialog box somehow stays hidden behind some other window? That would explain the "hanging".

Hope this helps,
   Mark.
