E-mu Patch Library Software

Hey there, I read this on your description of your software:

"there are three different System Exclusive file formats to contend with for these very similar synthesisers. They only have small differences, but are incompatible."

I have a Command Station and want to move all the patches I did with it into a Proteus 2000 module that I don't have it yet, it is possible to move my custom patches to the module having the same Roms and order? if so how?

Thank you so much :)

George

Hi George.

First of all, the Command Stations, Proteus 2500 or a XL-7 or a MP-7 or a PX-7 have different sets of waves in ROMs, but you can fit four different ROMS into a Command Station or Proteus 2k. All came standard with one ROM.

The Proteus 2000 comes standard with a ROM called the Composer ROM with that set of waves.

So for the presets to match ....

your Command Station must be a Proteus 2500 or have a Composer ROM in it and your presets must have only have used these waves.

or your new Proteus 2000 must have the matching ROM to your Command Station ROM

So if your Command Station is a XL-7 or a MP-7 or a PX-7 and there isn't the Composer ROM in it then the presets won't have the waves that will work in the P2k unless it also has the Command Station ROM.

For interest, these ROM pairs match most of the waves in the other

Proteus 2500 and Proteus 2000 (Composer)

XL-7 and XL-1 (or turbo) (XLEAD)

MP-7 and Mo-Phatt (PHATT)

I'm not sure about the PX-7

Let me know if you have the correct ROMs

All the best

Royce thanks for your prompt reply, sorry I was not that clear in my post,

So I have four Roms that I use in my CS and now I want to move them in a Proteus 2000 module and use the same custom patches I created I the CS

So from what I understand from your reply it is possible, can you tell how I can do that, the easiest way?

Is the mounting order of the Roms in the Proteus module slots matter?

Thank you so much

Firstly, you can only have 4 ROMS in a P2k/CS so you will have to choose which is left out - may mean some patches wont work.

Second, my CS  has stopped working till I can fix the power supply, so I can't check many things for you.

But a CS patch will load into my XL-1 Turbo (P2k), but won't sound and I'm guessing that the there is a different ROM/wave issue as there are ROMs in the CS that aren't in the XL-1.

The patch data is a group of 8 sysex 'blocks'. A header then 7 blocks of data.

The main differences between the CS and the P2k sysex is in Block 7  P2k = 41 bytes long   -  CS = 61 bytes long

To find out about the details of what was added to a patch in the CS you need the E-Mu Sysex Guide called 'Proteus Family Sysex 2.2.pdf'

Third, the ID in the sysex file needs to match the receiving synth and it occurs in every block so it is easier to change the ID in the receiving synth.

Look at the sysex patch file (this can be produced from my Emu library program)  in Hex editor -  MidiOx menu View/sysex load file (or free PSPad editor in hex mode).

The sysex from the CS will start F0 18 0F ID  (ie 00 to 126 or 7E )  if it is 7F then you are set as this means 'any' unit.

To set it - Rx synth P2k 'Master' button / MIDI SYSEX DEVICE ID page use the arrows to get to the bottom line and set it using the encoder.

Hope that helps

All the best

Royce
